HOUSTON – Today, eighteen organizations from the housing and building industry announced their support of Governor Greg Abbott for re-election at an event in Houston. Hosted by Roadrunner Moving and Storage, dozens of organization members were in attendance.

Governor Abbott acknowledged the groups for their support, saying, “I want to thank you and your members for the invaluable work you do to keep Texas growing. Because of the companies and Texans you represent, Texas continues to be the number one economic destination in America.”

Texas is now home to the ninth largest economy in the world and has been ranked the best state for business for 17 years running.

Governor Abbott noted that, “Even with the pandemic, Fortune 500 companies have flocked to Texas, including Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Oracle, Charles Schwab, and many others. More companies means more jobs, more residents, more growth, and more construction.”

In 2021, Dallas, Houston, and Austin were all ranked in the top ten nationally for new apartment construction and overall new housing construction. Each of those metro areas is also expected to be ranked in the top ten again in 2022.

Governor Abbott emphasized that good policies bring businesses and jobs. “To keep your industries thriving, we slashed regulations and burdensome red tape, passed COVID liability protections for businesses, reformed ERCOT and weatherized the grid, and cut property taxes in every legislative session since I’ve been Governor.”

Governor Abbott promised to continue the policies that have led to the state’s economic success.

Joining the Governor were eight speakers from groups that are supporting his campaign.

Ben Breedlove, Chairman of Southwest Movers Association, said, “Governor Abbott promised to build an environment that would spur our economy and create more jobs, and he did. With his policies, The Lone Star State has become an economic juggernaut and the best state to do business. Americans from all over the country are moving here in droves, which means more opportunities for all of us. At Southwest Movers Association, we believe Governor Abbott’s continued leadership is crucial to securing the future success of Texas. That’s why we are proud to endorse Governor Greg Abbott for re-election.”

Russell Berry, Chairman of the the Texas REALTORS/TREPAC, said, “We are proud to represent nearly 150,000 very busy Texas REALTORS® from across this great state and join our housing, building, and moving industry partners in supporting Governor Greg Abbott. People and businesses just keep moving to Texas – and it’s no surprise why. They want to move where real estate is plentiful, where economic policies help them flourish. They want good schools and safe communities. And they especially want to move where economic growth and job opportunities are because if you create jobs, the workforce will follow. That’s why we’re so excited to continue working with Governor Abbott to ensure that Texas remains the best place to work and live.”

Clay Hick, President of the Texas Apartment Association, noted, “TAA’s almost 12,000 members own, operate and service rental housing properties across Texas where millions of our friends and neighbors live. It’s estimated that about 40% of Texans live in rental properties, and our members have witnessed firsthand the growth our state has experienced under Governor Abbott’s leadership. Today, I’m honored to be here to announce that the Texas Apartment Association PAC is endorsing Governor Greg Abbott for re-election.”

Krys Weyand, President of the Texas Land Developers Association, said, “We are a statewide trade organization dedicated to protecting the real estate development industry and representing landowners, developers, real estate investors, and property owners, advocating for fair and equitable regulation of our industry and a pro-business environment for our great state. That is why we are proud to endorse Governor Greg Abbott for re-election. No one better understands the damaging effects of over-regulation and increased taxation on small business and property owners.”
