HOUSTON – Governor Greg Abbott today championed the State of Texas’ longstanding support for law enforcement at a ‘Back the Blue’ press conference at the Houston Police Officers’ Union Breckenridge Porter Building in Houston. During the press conference, the Governor highlighted public safety as a top priority for Texans and outlined steps the state has taken to secure our communities. The Governor also underscored policies supported by Beto O’Rourke—like defunding the police, no cashless bail, and open borders—that would be a severe threat to public safety across the Lone Star State.
Governor Abbott was joined at the press conference by Houston Police Officers’ Union (HPOU) President Douglas Griffith, members of law enforcement, and other local officials.
“Now, more than ever, is it important that Texas has a governor who fully supports our brave men and women of law enforcement and commonsense policies that make our communities safe—and that won’t be Beto O’Rourke,” said Governor Abbott. “As Governor, we reformed our broken bail system to keep dangerous criminals off our streets, made it financially impossible for our cities to defund the police, and have taken unprecedented action to secure our southern border. Securing the future of Texas starts with securing our communities, and I’m running for re-election to continue building upon the work we’ve done to ensure Texans are safer and that we remain a law-and-order state.”
“As you’ve seen recently, we have a problem with bail reform, we have a problem with our judges,” said HPOU President Douglas Griffith. “I want to thank Governor Abbott, who has been at the forefront of this issue.”
Governor Abbott has been endorsed for re-election by 17 law enforcement groups across Texas.
