AUSTIN – Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas (CLEAT) and Governor Abbott held a joint press conference today where CLEAT announced Greg Abbott as their choice for Governor in the 2018 election. CLEAT is the largest law enforcement association in Texas. This is yet another testament to Governor Abbott’s commitment to the men and women who protect our communities, as CLEAT  joins several other law enforcement associations in their support for Governor Abbott, including: the Texas Department of Public Safety Officers Association PAC, the Dallas Police Association PAC, the Texas Fraternal Order of Police PAC, the San Antonio Police Officers Association PAC, the Texas Municipal Police Association PAC, and the Houston Police Officers Union PAC.

Governor Abbott joined members of CLEAT for a joint press conference today in Austin to announce the endorsement.

“I am incredibly honored to receive the endorsement of CLEAT, an organization that represents the men and women who go to work every day to keep our streets safe and to protect our fellow Texans,” said Governor Abbott. “I’m running for re-election to continue fighting for law enforcement officers throughout our state. Together, we will build a safer future for Texas.”

“We don’t judge our political relationships by a blind allegiance to a party or a candidate but rather we have sought to keep our independence and do what’s best for Texas law enforcement officers and their families,” said Sgt. Todd Harrison, CLEAT President. “We didn’t make this decision lightly and the Governor’s answers to the hard, disagreeable questions that set us apart convinced us he will not only lead but continue to listen.”
