Our lives are changed by single moments, especially the ones we never see coming.
For me, that moment came on an afternoon in 1984 when I went for a run. Halfway through, a tree collapsed, falling on me and crushing my spinal cord. I was left permanently paralyzed from the waist down.
Texans may get knocked down, but we always get back up.
In the immediate aftermath, as I clung to every moment, I remembered the lesson instilled in me by my parents – the lesson of perseverance. It was the lesson of never, ever giving up.
I work to apply this principle every day, as well as the values of hard work and faith in God.
As Texas’ Attorney General, my mission is clear: defend our Constitutional rights, protect our kids, our families, and our values.
