AUSTIN – Governor Greg Abbott last night championed his conservative agenda for the 89th Legislative Session and highlighted the widespread support for school choice across Texas during his keynote address at the Fort Bend County Republican Party’s 2025 Lincoln Reagan Dinner in Richmond.

“Texas is No. 1 in so many categories, but it’s time we set our sights on another No. 1,” said Governor Abbott. “Texas must be No. 1 in educating our kids. The pathway to achieve that goal is to have the best teachers, good curriculum, and empowered parents. This session, we will achieve all three, putting our students on a pathway to rank No. 1 for the best educated students in America. As we close out a session for the ages, we will give Texas families the school choice they need and deserve.”

Speaking to a crowd of more than 600 Republican activists and supporters, Governor Abbott thanked attendees for their hard work to keep Texas red and urged them to continue to engage in upcoming elections. The Governor also highlighted the critical work of Texas’ border mission and touted President Donald Trump’s ongoing efforts to enforce the rule of law and secure the border. Governor Abbott mentioned that Texas will continue to support President Trump’s border and homeland security operations to ensure the border is secure for decades.

Additionally, Governor Abbott slammed local taxing authorities for using loopholes to increase Texans’ property taxes. The Governor pledged to pass lasting property tax reform by eliminating those loopholes to ensure local taxing authorities don’t raise property taxes this session. Governor Abbott also vowed to invest a record amount into new sources of water and to enhance existing infrastructure so ranchers and farmers have plenty of water for the next 55 years.
