THE TEXAS ECONOMY IS BOOMING, YET BETO WANTS TO DESTROY JOBS
“On Friday, it was announced Texas was one of only seven states to gain jobs in the month of May, but if extreme liberal Beto O’Rourke has his way, Texas would shed jobs through increased taxes and a pro-union agenda.”
– Mark Miner, Communications Director
On Friday, It Was Announced Texas Was One Of Seven States In May To See An Increase In Employment Numbers, Gaining 74,200 Jobs, Making More Than 390,000 More Texans Employed Since Prior To The Pandemic. “Texas employers added 74,200 jobs as another three industries surpassed pre-COVID employment levels. … Texas’ labor force grew for the seventh straight month to 13.4 million, according to the Friday jobs report from the Texas Workforce Commission. … Texas was one of seven states to see an increase in nonfarm payroll employment, according to a report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. … here are about 390,000 more people employed in Texas now than prior to the pandemic, according to Beacon Economics.” (Natalie Walters, “Texas Adds 74,000 Jobs In May, As Unemployment Rate Ticks Down To 4.2%,” Dallas Morning News, 6/17/22)
O’Rourke Wants To Increase Income Taxes, Corporate Taxes And Capital Gains Taxes. JOHN HARWOOD: “What sounds right to you?” BETO O’ROURKE: “I think you at a minimum roll back the worst elements of the Trump tax cuts. So the top marginal tax rate back up to 39%. If you were to do that, and in addition make some other structural changes to our tax code — the corporate tax rate, which was brought down from 35% to 21%, bring that back up to 28% — great place to start. And as you probably know, you generate hundreds of billions of dollars over the next 10 years. If you were to tax capital at the same rate that you tax ordinary wage income, like the waiters who are working here, you also get to some greater structural correction to a very unequal economy, and you generate the revenue necessary.” (John Harwood, “Beto O’Rourke Begins Filling In The Blanks On The Economy, Taxes And Entitlements,” CNBC, 7/5/19)
O’Rourke Wants To Eliminate Right-To-Work Laws. “As President, Beto would work with Congress to pass The Protecting the Right to Organize Act, which includes: increasing monetary penalties for employers; making corporate directors and officers liable for participation in or knowledge of the violation of workers’ rights; allowing workers at one company to picket, strike, or support a boycott in solidarity with workers at other companies; and eliminating so-called right-to-work laws, which make it harder for unions to support themselves financially and are associated with lower wages.” (Beto O’Rourke, “A 21st Century Labor Contract,” Medium, 8/22/19)
