Governor Abbott: Empower Parents, Fully Fund Public Education, And Let The Money Follow The Student
SAN ANTONIO – Today, Governor Greg Abbott reiterated his support of ensuring parents are the primary decision makers for their child’s education, a policy advanced by the Governor in his Parental Bill of Rights. Governor Abbott advocated for fully funding public education while allowing funding to follow the student. The Governor made these remarks at a parent’s policy event in San Antonio.
“No Governor has devoted more resources to public education than I have,” said Governor Abbott. “In 2019, we increased public education funding by more than $5 billion per biennium and in 2021 we added even more. It is imperative that we continue to fully fund Texas public schools. We can fully fund schools while also giving parents a choice about which school is best for their child.”
Governor Abbott went on to make clear that “urban, suburban, rural–if you like the public school your child is attending, it will be fully funded.”
Joined by Representative John Lujan, the Governor discussed his previously announced Parental Bill of Rights and the importance of fully funding Texas schools. Governor Abbott’s Parental Bill of Rights ensures parents remain the primary decision makers in their child’s education by allowing them to choose the best school for their child, provide transparency on curriculum and instructional materials, and protect students.
“Governor Abbott has done more for public education and Texas students than any other governor. I’m proud to be here tonight to support his latest efforts to make sure all students are given the opportunity to receive a good education,” said Representative Lujan.
