Greg Abbott unveiled the final phase of his Education Texans plan this week, which focuses on making higher education more accessible, affordable and accountable to all Texans.
Our military veterans have put their lives on the line for our liberties, and we can never express enough gratitude for their service. The Hazlewood Act is just one way the State of Texas gives back to our veterans and their families, fulfilling our duty to make sure they are taken care of by assisting with college tuition.
However, rather than pushing an unfunded mandate from Austin onto our public colleges and universities – which gets passed on to all students through increased tuition – the state should fully fund tuition and fees for military families who qualify for Hazlewood Act exemptions. Greg Abbott’s plan will do just that.
